The proximity to the main tourism issuing markets in Europe and North America, the existence of airports and maritime ports on all of the islands, the temperate climate, the uniqueness of the landscape and the cultural diversity provided by insularity are strengths of this sector in the Azores.

Tourism Sector Growth

The liberalization of the airspace over the islands of São Miguel and Terceira occurred in March 2015. In that year, the number of passengers arriving at Azorean airports increased by 21.2%, compared to 2014, and has always maintained this growth trend, which is reflected in all other indicators in the sector.
